We specified Ashford Formula for the 5000m2 Air NZ hanger in Nelson. The brief was to provide a smooth clean surface so the engineers could see and find anything falling onto the floor during aircraft maintenance. The cost of painting the floor was prohibitive and this is where Ashford Formula has a great advantage.  It has provided a perfect working surface that continues to polish through its life. It can be painted over with safety markings as needed and is not affected by fluid spills.  We would recommend specifying Ashford Formula on future concrete floor slabs where a high quality finish is required.

MSC Consulting Engineers have been the structural design engineers responsible for specifying floor slab surface products for many projects over the years.  A sample of these includes the Fonterra Dry Store at Hamilton, Bunnings Stores at Whakatane, Mt Roskill, Cambridge and Gisborne,  industrial buildings at The Gate in Penrose,  Savill Park in Otahuhu and for Goodmans at Highbrook in East Tamaki.
It has been our experience over many years that Ashford Formula has provided a good hard dense and dust free surface suitable to support the use of all types of materials handling equipment.  It is important to note however that the compressive strength of the floor slab needs to be designed as a specific structural element typically with compressive strengths of at least 30 MPa.
It is our opinion that Ashford Formula is a very good cost effective method of providing the serviceability required for modern industrial floors.  The next step up is to use a dry shake hardener however the cost of these applications has in our experience generally limited their use.  In addition the Ashford Formula provides an integral matrix with the top surface of the concrete which appears to be an advantage over the use of separately applied surface components.
In summary we have been satisfied with the performance of concrete slabs treated with Ashford Formula and consider that it is a very good all round surface treatment for use in high traffic industrial floors.
